Taurus: The Zodiac’s ‘COZY’ Queen
Understand the second sign of the zodiac with a little help from Queen Bey.
Where were you and what were you doing when you listened to Beyoncé’s RENAISSANCE for the first time? I use my Instagram Story archives the way normal people use diaries, so I can answer that question definitively. It was Friday, July 29, 2022, and I was putzing around the streets of Downtown Brooklyn after a DMV appointment with a blissfully unscheduled afternoon ahead of me. I made a spur-of-the-moment decision to walk home instead of taking the subway so I could listen to RENAISSANCE all the way through.
It’s hard to pick a favorite song off an album that should have won the Grammy for Album of the Year, but if I had to, mine would be ‘COZY.’ The empowered, house-infused cut is 3 minutes and 30 seconds of Black excellence, from Beyoncé’s slick vocals and self-assured lyrics, to an expertly sampled Ts Madison monologue.
For Bey, coziness isn’t just a physical state of being; it’s an unshakeable confidence in her own beauty, talent, and worthiness. And in that conviction lies strength. “Might I suggest you don’t fuck with my sis,” Bey advises, “‘cause she comfortable.”
What better way to conceptualize Taurus, the zodiac’s ‘COZY’ queen?
Taurus is the second sign in zodiacal order after Aries, the cardinal fire-starter. My natal Mercury and Mars are in Taurus (in the social 11th House of my birth chart, which tracks since I’m writing for an audience — hi! 👋). Needless to say, I am intimately acquainted with Taurus energy. I chose to explore it through the lens of Beyoncé’s ‘COZY’ because the song mirrors the best qualities of this sign.
Since Taurus is a fixed sign, its astrological season corresponds with the height of a meteorological season. For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, that’s spring. Flowers bloom; temperatures rise, and for the first time in the calendar year, they stay high consistently. Taureans embody this stasis. Their fixed nature can manifest as stubbornness, inflexibility, or complacency — or dependability.
One thing’s for certain, though: No sign is more sensual than Taurus, a Venus-ruled earth sign.
In astrology, the planet Venus signifies love, beauty, art, and money. Taurus is also the Exaltation sign of the Moon, which governs our emotions and physical bodies. As such, Taureans engage with the world through their five senses. They’re highly tactile and relish sensual delights of all kinds — think delicious food; high-quality weed*; long hikes in lush landscapes; slow, tender sex; and luxurious clothing.
With Venus in the mix, Taureans care about aesthetics. They’ll almost always indulge for the right vibe. If it doesn’t look and feel good, then you’ve probably lost a Taurus’s interest.
But Venus also rules our values. When I call Taureans the zodiac’s ‘COZY’ queens, I’m not just referring to their penchant for plush blankets and fancy clothes. That stuff is nice. At the end of the day, it’s all window dressing.
As Beyoncé outlines, true coziness is embodied. It’s a felt sense, an internal compass that guides you as you navigate the world. Anyone, regardless of their external circumstances, can channel this ‘COZY’ energy by identifying their values and acting with integrity. These steps are simple, but they can have a profound impact.
Many Taureans do this naturally. They’re like sturdy plants (the earth element), only instead of roots, they’re grounded by their values (Venus). And at their best, they’re willing and able to shed some proverbial leaves when necessary, even if change feels uncomfortable in the moment (a quintessential lesson for all fixed signs, IMHO). They know the confidence they’ve cultivated will keep them standing tall. And besides, a periodic pruning helps plants grow.
Bey says it best: “Confident, damn, you lethal.” When you’re truly, deeply comfortable with yourself, you’re powerful, because nobody can take that away from you. You’re ‘THAT GIRL’ (gender neutral). ‘Irreplaceable,’ if you will.
You don’t have to have any Taurus placements to tap into this magic. In fact, there aren’t any prerequisites to exploring your values and living in alignment with them. That’s what makes this work so transformative, and perfect for Taurus season.
