Aries, the initiator. The first sign of the zodiac, Aries brings new life in the astrological new year. The Ram is a cardinal fire sign, representing the ushering-in of fresh energy and ideas, and the emergence of Spring in the northern hemisphere. When Aries season arrives, you can feel it in the air and in the warmth beginning to spread beneath the soil.
Instead of spending the remainder of this primer walking you through the kind of Aries 101 information you can find easily on the internet, I want to be your guide through a written mood board about our favorite little fire-starter.
But first, in true Aries fashion, here are some details about me! My life is an ongoing process of understanding all 12 signs in my birth chart, but Aries is one I have been embodying for as long as I can remember.
I was born under a night sky with the Moon in Aries, forging a lifelong connection with this sign. Being born at night, the Moon is what’s known as my sect light, or the predominant luminary in my birth chart. (If you were born during the day, the Sun is your sect light!) While I am obviously influenced by every sign and placement in my chart, my Aries Moon sits in the driver’s seat more often than not. My needs, my inclinations, my responses and instinctual reactions — all draw upon Aries energy in some way.
To understand Aries energy, it’s helpful to explore how it feels.
Aries is heat. It’s the fire of passion in your gut.
Aries is in the spark of a lighter, in the first explosion of a firework.
You can find Aries in a newborn’s first breath, and in the angry, confused tears that follow.
Aries is in the urge to fight, and more noticeably in the urge to WIN.
It’s in the joy of making mistakes, in the flowers beginning to burst up from the thawing ground.
Aries rallies support for a cause and steps up to the plate when necessary.
You can find Aries in the boisterous laughter born from goofiness, in the attention-seeking charm of a child, and in the 1,000th idea you ditched for an even better one.
Aries is in the firing of a pistol to signal the beginning of a race, in your thirst for spontaneity and change, and in your dwindling patience.
Aries is even in the furious, late-night scrambling to get this newsletter done in time!
This Aries season, I want you to figure out where and how Aries manifests in your chart. (You have all 12 signs in your chart, so you don’t get to ignore or hate on any of them. Sorry!)
If one of your major placements is in Aries, start there! But if Aries occupies one of your “empty houses” or only contains planets you’re not as familiar with, begin studying the concepts associated with that house or that planet.
And, if that’s too complicated, just use this season to learn how to vibe with Aries energy. You’ve got it within you, even if you think you don’t.
