Confession time: I low-key dread New Year’s Day. Like clockwork, the restart of the Gregorian calendar comes with a shitload of societally sanctioned pressure to reflect on our accomplishments and set goals for the year ahead.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s important to retrospect, and to have an idea of where you’re headed. But I hate feeling obligated to do so. Not to mention, as an astrologer, the timing feels frustratingly arbitrary (compared to, say, the Winter Solstice or Lunar New Year).
In a show of laziness I’m reframing as an ~act of defiance~, I’m not setting any concrete goals for 2024. I’ve got no wellness resolutions, no career aspirations. Really, I just want to do more things that make me happy.
Venus entered Sagittarius just before the start of the new year. This planet-in-sign combo evokes the sort of love and passion that spreads like wildfire. Granted, that can manifest in different ways. It’s one thing to unapologetically stan your BFF / partner / favorite musical artist, and it’s another thing to worship a celebrity so fervently that your “fandom” starts to sound vaguely cultish. (My fellow Swifties, WYA? Would it surprise you to learn that Taylor herself is a card-carrying Sag?)
But / and, Venus in Sag brings something else to the table: joy. Unabashed, infectious, Jupiter-sized joy. This placement is fun, y’all! And by transit, it’s the boost of optimism we need right now.
With Saturn firmly in Pisces (and Mars in Sagittarius up until just yesterday), our emotional states have taken quite the hit. Like a houseguest who’s overstayed their welcome, sorrow has wedged its way into our individual and collective psyches. This will ring especially true for anyone with their Sun, Moon, or rising sign in one of the four mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, or Pisces).
Luckily, Venus in Sag is here to lighten the load, or at least signal some hope for the future. Here’s a full rundown of Venus’ exact transits this month:
Thursday, January 11: Venus in Sag trines Chiron in Aries
Monday, January 15: Venus in Sag trines the North Node in Aries
Friday, January 19: Venus in Sag squares Neptune in Pisces
Tuesday, January 23: Venus enters Capricorn
Monday, January 29: Venus in Capricorn trines Jupiter in Taurus
In philosophical, fun-loving Sag, Venus knows how to find joy in the face of grief. That could look like sweating out your woes in the dance floor, penning some fanmail to an artist whose music helped you through a tough time, or retraining your brain to notice more glimmers and fewer triggers.
This year’s iteration of Venus in Sag also boasts a lovely mutual reception with Jupiter in Taurus. The possibilities, not unlike Zaddy Jupiter himself, are limitless. And the stars are on your side until Venus moves into Capricorn at the end of the month.
Your cosmic order of business? Indulge in the shit that makes you happy! Dress hot for no reason! (COVID cases are on the rise, though, so consider masking up if you decide to hit the town.) For fuck’s sake, have some fun!
I know I will, despite, you know… *gestures wildly*
